Two “Montparnasses”: Paris, the pilgrimage site for Japanese painters who traveled to France, and Ikebukuro, the home to a rich community of artists and studios in Tokyo. We explore the appeal of works that connect across time between these two “Montparnasses”, through a collaboration exhibiting pieces from the collections of the Itabashi City Museum of Art, Toshima City, and our museum.
